I digress....
"Dreams of Gods and Monsters" sums up the trilogy while leaving room for more of a story to flourish, in our own minds? Or is/was Laini Taylor planning to follow the trilogy with more? It's a mystery...I did look up if any of her books seem to come after like Leigh Bardugo did after the Shadow and Bone Trilogy...as far as I can tell, Taylor did not.
Karou and Akiva are doing the unthinkable the impossible. They have united Chimera and Seraphim alike and are on a mission to keep their problems strictly in Eretz and out of the human world. More importantly they are trying to keep Jael from obtaining weapons of mass destruction. A new character is introduced and proves to be a powerful player and a large part of the potential for a further story.
I really enjoyed this book once I was able to get into it. I'm not going to lie Eliza's character being added really threw me off. It was more than my brain could handle after two books being so thoroughly wrapped up in Chimera and Seraphim with Zuz and Mik being the only key human players. So having chapters on this never before heard of human threw me off massively. Add in a bad mental health week, technology fighting me and exhaustion from a multitude of things and well, clearly I had a problem. However from about 6:30 am to about 10 am yesterday morning, I could not put this book down. I was entranced....and literally did not move off my couch until I finished it. So in my personal opinion the problems I had getting into the book were completely of my own making. But I'm mentioning it because if anyone else has trouble getting into this final chapter, stick with it because it is totally worth it!
I loved getting to know Liraz's character more in this novel. She is so complex, a real example of how someone can change and grow and become a better version of themselves. If there are future books written about these characters, this is my official request that I want one centered on Liraz...and Ziri, I think I may love them even more than Karou and Akiva. Liraz has so much depth and so much potential and I want to see that vicious Misbegotten turn into an amazing person. Ziri...Ziri is one of those characters that the moment I was introduced to him I was drawn to him...no not in a book boyfriend kind of way...not that he isn't total book boyfriend material...But drawn to his character the way you are drawn to some people. Something in their soul sings to you before you even know them. I want to know more about Ziri, I want to see Ziri get everything he ever wants and be so happy it's disgusting. All in all, I am very happy that I finally read this trilogy and while I couldn't remember why it was originally on my list, I am in awe and gratitude that I started this year's book journey off with such incredible stories.
