We all want someone to love

Sooooo I went on a bit of werewolf kick this weekend. I would pretend to be embarrassed about it, but I’m certain, based on the app with free novels I was reading on and the number of people reading on it I was not the only one….so no shame.

It all started with a facebook ad, what can I say, big brother (and by big brother I mean the advertisers lurking in every website, listen to my obsessive need to read everything and anything and have started advertising apps where independent writers can publish content and bribing me with snippets of books.

Is the thought of a person morphing into a giant canine weird…absolutely, yet that’s not what draws me to these stories, I don’t really care that they’re werewolves, in fact aside from references to their inner “wolf” I forget half the time they even are. I find the lore surrounding werewolves mate bond absolutely fascinating. I think it’s something to do with the thought of having someone out there truly meant for you. That no matter what you do you have this inexplicable link to someone. It’s like a soulmate, but stronger. When you meet this person, you know you’re supposed to be with them.

Isn’t that what we all want after all? Even if we say we’re okay with being alone. In the end whether it’s romantic or not don’t we all wish for someone to spend our lives with. Whether it’s a platonic friend, or a romantic partner, or a child we are raising. Don’t we all want someone to share our life, our experiences, our joy, our sadness with?

Humans do not fair well when in isolation as a general rule, yes there are exceptions and people who definitely crave and need time alone. But, as an overall human experience we need interaction of some kind with other people. That’s why isolation used as punishment in prisons is so brutal and inhumane. You go crazy locked away alone.

It goes back to my favorite myth, about the red string tying people together. Someone, or multiple someone’s being out there in the world that are tied to you, that will have a profound affect on your life. That no matter what you do, no matter who you are or aren’t with, you will eventually find this person or these people and they will give you a vital part of who you are. Whether it is through a simple moment, loving them or hating them for years. They will have a profound affect on your life.

We all want something to believe in, we all want to believe there is rhyme and reason in the universe, we want things to make sense. So we’re drawn to stories that comfort us, that say yes someone is out there for you, you’ll find them some day, and for a little while we feel less alone, because our character is less alone. Or we feel seen because the character is alone just like us, we understand their perspective, we understand them and it makes us feel less alone because we’re not the only one.

Whatever it is, whatever feeling you are grasping for, I hope you find it.

“The Alpha and the Mistake” by Jilguera

“Unwanted” by Brilynnbooks (ongoing series, she posts 3 chapters a day….I’m going crazy waiting for the next 3)

*all of these can be found on the readict app, it’s free, there are ads, there are typos in the books sometimes, but reading more amature work is actually a really nice feeling, because some of these are not amatures if you read this work, it is good*
