Black Girls Must Die Exhausted

“Black girls must die exhausted” by Jayne Allen. My assumption going into this book that it was more of a self love book than a romance novel. And it did not disappoint.

This novel follows Tabitha Walker, a young successful black woman who is owning her life plan…until she isn’t. One routine doctors office throws all of Tabithas careful planning up in the air as she decides how to protect her future dream of having biological children. As Tabitha struggles with the financial implications of her situation and her two best friends struggle as their lives fall apart beside hers; we are presented with the question of is it really okay to settle or should we follow what we want and allow dreams to change as we grow.

I needed this novel so much right now. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it validated everything I have personally learned in the past year. That dreams change, that talking about the big issues is important. That having friends you can be real with is vital.

Watching Tabitha grapple with what she wanted and come out true to herself, not settling, not letting a man define what she wanted out of life or when she wanted it…chefs kiss, it was beautiful.

Also because my brain had writers block and it took so long to formulate this blog I have found out there is already a sequel and I NEED to read it!
