Even Angels Fall

I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy of "Even Angels Fall" by Elisabeth Garner. The story follows Evie and Bernie and Christopher. Evie and Bernie are two best friends, living their best lives and supporting each other. They both find someone to love around the same time, only for one of them it doesn't turn out to be a good situation. Bernie finds Charlie, an incredible human with so much confidence it's intimidating as hell and yet I want to be friends with them. Evie begins a relationship with Gavin, who in the beginning seems almost too good to be true.....Fun fact, he is. Christopher is a shy introvert who is pulled into Evie and Bernie's orbit and falls madly in love with Evie but manages to become one of her best friends while being respectful of her relationship with Gavin and never once telling her his feelings.

First a disclaimer this book does talk about an emotionally abusive relationship so that can be triggering to some. Hell I had to put it down for the night because I was getting upset.

However I feel that is something all too often not talked about, in books, in shows, or life. Abuse is talked about a lot, but when referred to it is almost always physical, someone being hit etc. When the emotional aspects can leave just as much if not more harm. I feel like it's a lot easier for someone to stay in an emotionally abusive relationship because there are no visible marks. People can see they are unhappy etc. But it's much easier to brush off, downplay, they didn't mean it etc because there is no physical reminder. Emotional abusers are often very manipulative as we see Gavin being in the book. He would emotionally abuse her and then apologize, twist it around like she had done something wrong when she hadn't. So I feel that it is important to have stories that highlight this type of abuse.

Moving on....

One of my favorite book troupes or types of books to read is multiple perspective. This did not disappoint. I loved getting the story not only from Evie going through the relationship but from Bernie and Christopher as well. You get so much more of the story this way. It also lets the characters be more human in my opinion. You don't just see Christopher being the good guy and Bernie knowing that he loves Evie, but you get to see what's actually going on in his head. How hard it is on him to watch Evie go through this awful relationship when all he wants to do is love and care for her.

Really Christopher's entire character was incredible. If I hadn't seen any of his perspective I probably would have thought he was too good to be true also. But he struggles, he almost tells her, he stops himself. He reminds himself to be respectful of their relationship. He acts, like you would expect a friend in that situation to act.

Evie is such a cute character. I could totally be friends with her in real life. Side note, I absolutely love reading about bookworms. They are super relatable to me. Haha I wonder why... I love how caring she is of everyone in her life.

Bernie is also adorable. Sometimes we don't know what to do with our lives Mom, and someone has to be the bartender!

Charlie is probably my favorite, even though they are not the main character. I might have a bit of a crush on Charlie. They have so much confidence and yet are so freaking sweet and loving to everyone. They remind me of all my super favorite characters. I really hope that the next book is about Charlie and Bernie because they deserve to be the main characters.

When it comes out you should all read it because it was super enjoyable!

    1. Also, there were several times while writing certain scenes I had to walk away from my computer. I didn't enjoy being in that character's skin, so to speak, but I knew I had to stay true to the character. Other scenes, though, I enjoyed writing... maybe a little too much. :) There's definitely more Bernie and Charlie to come. I love them way too much for that not to happen.

    2. I can imagine it must have felt creepy to be thinking along the lines of Gavin's brain. I love hearing that you enjoyed writing, I enjoyed your book so much. I'm also very excited to now have confirmation that Bernie and Charlie will be featured again in the coming novels, I love them!
